When comparing batteries, you may encounter specifications expressed in amp hours (Ah) and watt hours (Wh). These measurements describe different electrical characteristics and are particularly important to understand when air travel is involved.
Driving range should also be viewed realistically.

Requirements can depend on the battery type and configuration, so travelers should review current FAA guidance and contact their airline before traveling rather than relying solely on general statements that a mobility device is "airline friendly."

Comfort and Fit Should Not Be Sacrificed for Portability
It is easy to become so focused on finding the lightest electric wheelchair that comfort and fit become secondary considerations.
They shouldn't.
A portable chair still needs to accommodate the person using it.
Look at seat width, seat depth, back support, armrest positioning, footrest position and overall seating geometry. Consider the user's height and weight as well as how long the chair is likely to be used during a typical outing.
Some portable chairs also offer different frame widths, reclining back supports, adjustable components or accessories that allow the chair to be better matched to an individual user's needs.
A chair that is easy to put into the car but uncomfortable after an hour of use has solved only half of the problem.
Power Chair vs. Mobility Scooter
Portable power chairs and mobility scooters are both powered mobility devices, but their designs and driving positions are substantially different.
A mobility scooter typically has a steering tiller positioned in front of the user. A power chair normally uses a joystick mounted near an armrest.
Power chairs can also have a different overall footprint and maneuvering style than scooters.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Portable Power Chair
Rather than beginning with a brand or model, start by identifying what the chair needs to accomplish.
How often will it be transported? Who will lift it? What is the maximum comfortable lifting weight for that person? What size vehicle will be used? Where will the chair be driven most often? How much seating space does the user require? Will the chair be used for air travel? How much daily driving range is realistically necessary?
Once those questions have been answered, comparing models becomes much easier.
A specification that is extremely important to one person may be nearly irrelevant to another.
